Just as the symbol of Christ's cross has endured for
millennia, so too has the Ancient Widow's Mite
Coin in this 14K Openwork Scroll Cross
Pendant. Minted in Rome during the
first century B.C., the handstruck bronze "widow's
mite" coin is over 2,000 years old. This relic is a
genuine coin used in the Holy Land at the time of
Christ. The widow's mite is bezel-set at the heart of a
polished, 14K yellow gold cross, which has openwork arms
formed by graceful filigree scrolls.
The Bible relates the story of the widow's mite in
the book of Mark, verses 12:41-44. According to the
legend, Jesus observed people giving money to the
treasury and noted that a poor widow who gave two small
bronze coins—known as mites—was more generous than the
rich men who gave more valuable coins, as she gave all
that she had.
